Implementation of the activities 2009
Addressing the research activities planned for 2009
A109 - the article was written on the quality of jobs for foreigners. It is mainly based on data from a quantitative survey of employers of foreigners in the CR (2007) with the addition of qualitative information from interviews with foreigners (2008). Elaboration of the text included for quantitative analysis in SPSS, coding and analysis of selected interviews in the Atlas program. Text is shortly before completion (in particular, it is necessary to insert the qualitative knowledge) and will shortly be submitted for publication in the journal, most likely at the Forum of Social Policy.
Throughout the year, research activities A209 - A509 were in progress. Outputs from these activities will be completed during the first half of 2010 and will consist of individual chapters newly prepared monograph "Institutional conditions for the integration of foreigners in the Czech Republic." Each chapter (outputs of activities) are currently in various stages of completion and will be in the coming months to require elaboration so that the target was filled with C4 according to the approved project proposal, i.e. by 30.6.2010. The following activities were conducted in 2009:
A209 – discussion with the management of specific workplace of Foreigner Police Service, creation of a methodology and tools for data collection, implementation of 12 interviews with staff of the Foreign Police, the transcripts and coding, analytical work
A309 - collection of relevant documents, secondary analysis of statistical data, analysis of documents (summary of existing knowledge)
A409 - collection of relevant documents, secondary analysis of statistical data, analysis of documents
A509 - in the context of this activity is currently processing (a) study on the role of NGOs in the process of social integration and (b) study on the role of employment agencies in the same process.
Ad a) developing of methodologies and tools for data collection, creating a database of NGOs involved in integration in the CR, contacting, implementation of 27 interviews with employees of individual organizations (two waves), transcriptions, coding of interviews in the Atlas program.
Ad b) processing of the theoretical background and research methodology, a data collection instrument (the interview scenario), the implementation of the first wave of interviews (7 interviews with selected staff of the employment agencies in the country).
A709 – in the second half of the year, Paul Čižinský developed a study of the legislative framework for social integration of immigrants in the country. This study is currently serving as a suitable basis for the work of other members of the research team. Currently, together with the author we are considering the most appropriate form of publication. The final text is now prior reviews.
Other Activities
A609 - Building on existing empirical findings from research in the years 2006-8 the conference “Social integration of migrants in the Czech Republic” was organized at the premises of the Masaryk University in the October 16, 2009. Members of the team along with selected experts spoke on the issue. A lively discussion on current problems of integration of foreigners in the CR, especially on the problems and institutional barriers, was included. The contributions that were presented at the conference, will be released in the first half of 2010 in proceedings.
X07/09 - Since the beginning of 2009 a monograph "Social integration of immigrants in the Czech Republic", which represents the outputs of the research activities of the previous year of the project, was finalized. Completion of this monograph was in many respects, more time-consuming than we expected. The text was submitted to the reviewing procedure in May 2009. Review reports included a series of initiatives for development, modification and noticed some shortcomings. Elaboration of, inter alia, included a deeper analysis in the identification dimension of social integration, reducing the existing text and writing a glossary of terms included for readers.
Live Presentation of results
Members of the team were also actively involved within the presentation of existing knowledge gained from the project, for example, participation in scientific conferences and publishing scientific texts.
